Negativity in any form is . . . unpleasant, to say the least. However, what if you could train yourself to start seeing it as a good thing? No, of course the negativity itself is not a good thing. But it does provide an excellent opportunity to call forth something better.

The next time you are confronted with something negative, whether it’s a rude person, an uncooperative spouse, a misbehaving child, a scary health issue or money issue, or anything else – STOP and ask yourself, “What would I rather be experiencing in this situation?”

When the answer comes to you, immediately turn your attention to that more pleasing idea and stay with it for as long as you can.

Example: If you feel overwhelmed and frightened by a health problem, your answer might be, “I would rather be experiencing excellent health!” Now stay with that thought and expand on it. What would it be like to experience excellent health? See yourself feeling great, having plenty of energy, being pain-free, etc.

Why do this? Because it immediately takes you out of “victim” mode and places you squarely in “empowerment” mode. You just feel better, and you take your power back from any unpleasant situations or people who may have been influencing your mood and mindset.

Today’s Positive Affirmation:

I choose to focus on things that empower me.
